YORK INCIDENT - FAYID 1953

As Remembered By Don Smith ex: RAF Fayid

It was in 1953 whilst stationed at RAF Fayid that I witnessed the arrival of a York aircraft whose outboard propeller had collided with a mountain on the approach to the airfield. This happened at night, the plane was full of Army personnel and I can to this day still recall the ashen look of the faces of the aircrew and passengers as they came off the aircraft.

We had to replace the engine and propeller and I would like to hear from any squaddy that was on the aircraft to hear their story
